I have lived in the Midwest my entire life and for the most
part I enjoy winter. I like the snow and
I don’t mind the cold all that much but this winter has been ridiculous!! We have gotten over 60” of snow so far this
year and it seems like if it isn’t snowing then the thermometer drops to below
normal temperatures, I don’t think we’ve seen 30°F in weeks. My family and I got a slight reprieve last weekend;
while Chicagoland was getting 9” of snow we were in New Orleans where it was
sunny (for the most part) and a tepid 70°F – heaven!! We weren’t there very long, just a 4-day
weekend to celebrate my youngest daughter’s 21st birthday. The weather was perfect, the food superb and
Bourbon Street?? Well that’s a different
blog.
So what have I been working on lately? Currently I am still working on my valentines
for this year and while I have a bunch of designs I am not sure I really “love”
any of them but I will definitely post them next week and let you be the
judge. Today’s post is about this quilt
card I found on Pinterest and CASED from the Paper Fections blog by Sharon
Harnist featuring Gina K Designs.
I loved the deceptively simple look of this card. The original design used the Quilt Card cut
form from Silhouette but I don’t own a Silhouette so I created this card by
cutting out circles of double sided card stock and scoring them to form a
square. Determining the best diameter for
the circles and where to score them took me a couple of tries. I finally settled on 1-7/8” diameter,
anything smaller didn’t seem to look right.
Once the circles are cut they need to be scored so that you can form a
square, after a couple of free handed tries and squares that looked more like dilapidated
trapezoids I build a template on top of my slicer with washi tape to make the
scoring easier and more exact.
After I had all the circles scored and folded into squares I
then began building my card. Because of
the size of my circles I could only get 6 of them on the card but once I had
them laid out I thought they needed a pop of color so I added a mat of card
stock, torn at the top and bottom behind them.
I then mounted that on a piece of card stock embossed with the
Spellbinders Cane Weave embossing folder.
I stamped the sentiment and attached it with a coordinating brad.
I LOVE the look of double-sided card stock and I hate to
waste any of it. This card is literally
made from scraps and is a great way to use them up.
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. Stay warm!!
